TRY CHURCH

University is a great time to try out new things including church!

If you are interested in trying it out this page has everything you’ll need to know

We asked some students about their faith and why they go to church - this is what they said

HOW CAN I TRY OUT CHURCH?

The Student Linkup app is an app you can use to find out which churches are near you. Each church has a little blurb about who they are, where and when they meet and how you can get involved. It also has a message function so you can ask any questions you might have. It’s a great way to find a church to try out near you. What might you gain by trying out church?

WHY SHOULD I TRY OUT CHURCH?

If you want to find out more about God and are looking for a community of people to do that with, church is a great place to start.

“For me, church is a place where people are committed to being involved in your life - a community of friends who are real with each other and genuinely interested in me. It has been a helpful space to ask questions about faith and life. It’s a place to process the ups and downs of life and to learn more about God.”

WHAT HAPPENS AT CHURCH?

Most Sunday church services involve sung worship; a talk about God; prayer and a space to chat over tea and coffee. However, each church is slightly different so our student linkup app has details of what each church is like.

Church is much more than just a Sunday morning though. Most churches run smaller midweek groups for people to connect and explore faith together. Many have groups specifically for students as well as various social justice or community projects you could get involved in.

DO I NEED TO WEAR, BRING OR KNOW ANYTHING?

Most people wear their normal clothes to church so wear whatever you feel comfortable in.

Some people bring Bibles or have a Bible app on their phone, however you don’t need to have either. The most important thing is to turn up with an open mind. If you like it great, go again but if you find it’s not for you there is no pressure to go back.

If you aren’t familiar with the Christian faith then you might have lots of questions. That’s totally fine. Churches love welcoming people and will happily engage with all of your questions. You’ll be so welcome just as you are.
